If US supports Israel because they are democratic state, why is US NOT supporting Taiwan over China?

Isn't it a double standard? I know Nixon-Kissinger did this because of Cold War, but Cold War is over. Don't tell me US supports Egypt by pay ing a huge foreign aid. We do so to thank Egypt for not attacking Israel.
