Please interpret this song for me (popular song)?

Its about people in a relationship hurting each other. There isnt just "one love" for them, theres many because they love each other but arent sure if they are right for each other. They cheat on each other, but at the same time preach things about how love is supposed to be "love is a temple, love the higher law etc."
