Where is a Great place to start a family outside of California?

Maryland. no earthquakes, good school system. Not too liberal, not too conservative (depending on where you live, but the more conservative area is on the western tip) close to DC, a few hours drive from major cities, such as NYC, Philly, Pittsburgh, Baltimore. There will be ghettos everywhere you go, but trust me, its nice and temperate.
